My name is Rick Mirenzi and I am a 51 year old Self-Employed
business owner from Canton, Ohio. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA
(About 1 1/2 Hours East of Canton) where my mother and father and
other family members still live. I have been married for 30 years
and have a 24 year old son currently 1/2 way thru his MBA program
at Malone College.
In 2004 I began a career selling cemetery property. I was with the cemetery just two days when I began seeing a trend that demanded that we cronical the history of the men and women military veterans laid to rest in our cemetery. In my first three weeks with my new company we were able to start a website www.cantonheroes.com and begin plans to develop a special monument that would honor the 16 Medal of Honor recipient from Stark County, Ohio.
16 months later we dedicated a very special monument that is now recognized across the USA .
Little did I know that this new path would help me understand so much about my country and the men and women who protect and defend our nation. I have been privileged to help our Blue Star Families (Families who currently have members actively serving) and our Gold Star Families (Families who have lost loved ones in battle) We looked hard at ways to support these families and soldiers and soon after our dedication we formed a company called The Veteran Connection.
The Veteran Connection is designed to help and support local veteran causes, find business groups who would support projects with monetary donations in exchange for significant advertising packages. We geet press and media support for all military projects that needed outside support and we raise funds for needy military families.
Because we do not have a board of directors or political tie. we can pick and choose projects as we see a need.
I have been blessed to work with our local and national military families, see people being helped, meet young men and women currently serving and to comfort families that have lost their loved ones serving our country.
If you met me 10 years ago and asked if I thought I would ever be doing what I am doing now I would have laughed and said you were crazy.
Over the past 4 years of my life I truly believe that I have been most blessed, simply because at this late age in my career and life I truly have begun to understand that I live in the greatest country of the world because so many men and women fought so hard to provide these opportunities for me.
I sincerely wish that as you follow our Presidential election, meet the people who make up Stark County, Ohio and get to know me and my family that you begin to understand why Americans become so passionate about their right to vote for candidates of their choice.
